99 Days of a Training is a 99-part series that I will document my daily progress towards my first marathon. Each day I plan on recognizing a word or phrase that corresponds with that day’s training. This series will conclude on May 6th, 2012 when I toe the start line (or somewhere in the back of the pack) at the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, OH.
Today was just a quick tune up for this weekend’s half-marathon. I just put in 2 miles to kick off the rust. That is the only run I’ve had this week since my big 20-miler on Sunday.
A bit of reflection: Last year I ran the 5K at this race, setting a then-PR of 30’51″. I remember how awesome it was to see all the half-marathoners coming through after I was done that I thought “next year, that will be me.” Well, I underestimated myself because I really thought it’d take me a year to get to 13.1. I was wrong, as I ran the Iron Horse only 6.5 months later. Now, a year later I’m ready for my second half-marathon and will be only 36 days away from my first full upon completion. Amazing things can happen when you prove your self-doubts wrong.
