99 Days of a Training is a 99-part series that I will document my daily progress towards my first marathon. Each day I plan on recognizing a word or phrase that corresponds with that dayâs training. This series will conclude on May 6th, 2012 when I toe the start line (or somewhere in the back of the pack) at the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, OH.
What a huge day! First and foremost, my Kentucky Wildcats are headed back to the final 4! Secondly, I ran 20 miles. Some people may put that in the other order, but I’m more proud of my Cats than I am of my 20 miles.
So I set out at Legacy Trail bright and early. Things went really well, surprisingly. I remember a day when a mile seemed impossible, yet today I recall thinking I’d just started when I’d been out for 10 miles. It was a surprisingly good feeling.
Of course, that didn’t last. Once I got around mile 17 I really started feeling it. At that point I was just hoping to get it over with. Since my previous best was only 16 miles this run by far shattered anything I had done before in terms of distance, time, calories, etc.
Overall I did 20.01 miles in 3 hours, 47 minutes and 45 seconds. Pace was only 11:23/mi, so not blazing but respectable for my first 20-miler.
This should be a lazy week coming up..minimal running due to my schedule, recovery, and the upcoming half-marathon this weekend.
