99 Days of a Training is a 99-part series that I will document my daily progress towards my first marathon. Each day I plan on recognizing a word or phrase that corresponds with that day’s training. This series will conclude on May 6th, 2012 when I toe the start line (or somewhere in the back of the pack) at the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, OH.
Word of the day: frustration.
This morning I got up, got the family off as I always do, then got ready for my run when I realized I had done something to screw up my phone. Being a tech geek I’m always tinkering with things and this time, unbeknownst to me at the time, I had screwed it up to where it only worked on wifi. I had no 4g, no 3g, not so much as 2g.
This posed a problem as I always use my phone as my GPS for running. I use RunKeeper to track my time/distance/etc and not having that threw my into a fit. Apparently I have some sort of something where I can’t function right without my routine… and this was not cool. After a while of tinkering with it I finally just went out and ran. I took it with me to provide music but lacking RunKeeper and IHeartRadio really ruined my routine.
Knowing that a route around my neighborhood is 1.5 miles via one route and 1.0 via another I was able to piece together how I needed to get in 4 miles. I’ve heard some people refer to this as “running naked”, that is without GPS…I HATED it. Actually, I guess to go with my theme for the day, ‘it frustrated me’.
I was able to get my phone fixed later in the morning, so I should be good for tomorrow, but I’ll keep this in mind to make sure this frustration doesn’t happen again.
