Many moons ago I downloaded the App ‘RunKeeper’ for my phone. In doing so I filled out their normal gauntlet of information, such as name, date of birth, etc. One of the other questions is “My goal”, with a few suggestions. In the available text box I entered “30 minute 5k.”
That was done when I signed up earlier this year… without knowing truly what it took to achieve a 30-minute 5k. That is based off of what I’ve heard other people say they’d like to do, and since I wasn’t a real runner at the time I just listened. The journey wasn’t easy, but 5 months after my first 5k (and in my 4th ever 5k) I achieved that goal during A MidSummer Night’s Run in Lexington running an official 29:34.
Needless to say I’m thrilled. I’ve never broken 30 even in my training. My first 5k was at 32:37, so in 3 races since I was able to shave off 3:03. I’ll take that every time, if I could. But now that I’ve achieved this goal, it doesn’t mean it is time to stop. Therefore, my next adventure will be…
