So here it is a few hours after my first 5-mile race and I’m finally dried out. This seemed a bit like deja-vu from my first 5k race which involved too much rain for my own comfort. The good thing is I had a better time than I planned. The bad thing is I finished further back in the field than I have in any other, but that is because there was a limited amount of participants. Granted, my focus is on finishing and finishing with a good time for myself, I’m not out there as part of the competition.
The 5-mile race today was the final leg of the Frankfort Trifecta Run/Walk Series which started with a 3k on St. Patrick’s Day, a 5k in May and culminated with a 5-miler today. I finished the 3k in 18’42″ (10’2″ pace), the 5k was a disaster as I hadn’t ran in 8 days prior and ran with bronchitis, but still finished in 33’27″ (10’46″ pace). Today I rolled in at 51’36″ (10′,19″ pace), which was a good 3+ minutes better than what I had figured I’d run it at, and even about a minute faster than what I thought I could conceivably run.
Here is the RunKeeper info from today… keep in mind I didn’t start it exactly at the start and I forgot to stop it for about 45 seconds after I finished, so that info isn’t accurate. RunKeeper for June 18th, 2011
This was my longest race to date, but that won’t stand long as I’m signed up for July 4th’s Bluegrass 10,000 in downtown Lexington. The 6.2-miler there will be my longest until I attempt to do the Iron Horse Half Marathon in October.
The shortest race on my Calendar is going to be the the annual A Midsummer Night’s Run 5k on August 6th.
